The Wild Women Of The Woods

Why We Are Here

The Dzunuḵ̓wa Society (the Wild Women of the Woods Society) works to unite people and communities. We work to safeguard the land and water through restoring connection and responsibility, following Indigenous Law, to secure an abundant future for all life.

 Who is the Dzunuḵ̓wa

The Dzunuk'wa Society was founded in 2022 by three women with Indigenous roots (along with friends and allies) who work to protect the ancient temperate rainforests—the irreplaceable ecosystems of British Columbia. And we won’t stop until they are protected.

Our Work

We’ve are launching the Dzunuḵ̓wa Society by attending COP15 (the 15th meeting of the UN Conference of Parties, Convention on Biological Diversity).

Our immediate goals are to:

  1. Continue a public conversation about land stewardship, resource extraction, and its effects on forests, biodiversity, wildlife, waters, fish, and soil, through education.

  2. Pressure the Federal and Provincial governments to put an end to the logging of old growth forests OR to create a pause in industrial activity, encouraging consensual, constructive, ongoing conversation between industry, the public, activists, and First Nation communities.

  3. Amplify and promote traditional Indigenous knowledge. Balancing holistic Indigenous land stewardship practices with modern technology, and scientific experts in the field of ecology and sustainable resource management.

4. Create a community network of land guardians for the purpose of preserving ancient ecosystems.
